In this series of four classes, learn how to navigate the unique challenges an editor confronts in cutting for different genres. Join Luis Zerón, an accomplished editor for television and film, whose credits include popular shows for HBO and Netflix, as you explore how to effectively cut drama, action, suspense/thriller, and montage sequences.
In these three-hour sessions, you’ll learn how to become a well-rounded editor capable of working on different kinds of projects. Through lecture, discussion, and examination of scenes, you’ll explore how to build emotion through dialogue, create spectacular moments through action, use images and sound to connect with the audience, and how to build tension and suspense. No matter the genre or format you’ll understand what it takes to work effectively in the film and series industry.

In this three-hour session, learn how to create dramatic tension through dialogue scenes. Participants will examine how to build emotion and get the best out of actors and stories.
1-Day: Cutting Action (Online)
Saturday, Apr 22, 2023 – 9am-12pm ET
Cutting an action scene requires an editor to balance the story, clarity, and energy. In this three-hour session, you will explore a methodology to address action scenes in the cutting room. Examine the characteristics of action as a genre and review examples of scenes edited by the instructor and other representative scenes of the genre.
